HOW WE STARTED

David Iffergan founded Belt Electronics, Inc. in 1982 as a Warranty Service Center for industrial, commercial, and consumer electronics.  Through its unique expertise in the fields of audio and video engineering and communications, Belt Electronics provided services and equipment in various areas, including Broadcast Video and Security, that have utilized CCTV, satellite, VSAT (SCADA), microwave, and fiber-optic communications.  With this suitability, it was natural that Belt Electronics expanded its services to include Consulting Services, System Design, Sales, and Service in the Security field.

BEI Communications was established in 1991 to provide video-conferencing (voice, video and data communications) services to corporate, government and commercial clients.  In 1994, BEI developed, designed, and integrated videoconferencing technologies, along with fiber-optic wire fencing, into a revolutionary security system for correctional and high security facilities.  The system used a fiber-optic net, supplemented with state-of-the-art surveillance systems, that detects intrusion of physical breaks or weight disruption that makes the system impenetrable, fail-safe, comprehensive, and at much lower operating costs than the competition.  BEI Communications is now recognized as a progressive and innovative company in the field of Security and Video Communications Techniques

BEI Security's advanced perimeter security solutions have created new niches in the ever-expanding security industry.  Our guiding philosophy has been to leverage the advantages of manned security with the mitigating benefits of high technology.  Moreover, these new and emerging modes of technology are giving greater strength to the security department while reducing the costs for the increased confidence and security.

In 1999, BEI Communications incorporated a company named VUGate in response to the opportunity to acquire the video communication business division of Datapoint Corporation, along with all associated inventories, assets and exclusive rights to related patented intellectual property.  The formation of VUGate brought together a unique set of innovative technologies with an experienced team of management, administrative and technical resources from Datapoint Corporation and BEI Communications. VUGate has established a dominant position in the corrections market with its inmate video visitation application and advance integrated niche videoconferencing solutions within the Federal, Education and Medical markets.
